Information about Concrete and Designer Pools
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONCRETE AND GUNITE POOLS:
Concrete and Gunite pools are two construction methods whereby steel re-enforcing is installed prior to casting/application and the difference lies in the method of application:
Conrete: (Handpack)
A Pre-Mixed concrete mixture by an approved concrete mixing company, with a minimum strength of 30Mpa is continuously packed forming the walls and the floor of a swimming pool, with a minimum thickness of 150mm.
Concrete: (Gunite)
A graded river sand and cement mixture with a minimum of a 4:1 ratio, is pneumatically applied on the walls and floor of the swimming pool.
As the oldest family owned company since 1962, Blue Lagoon Pools has been instrumental in the drafting of minimum specifications in partnership with the SABS of South Africa as well as the NSPI (National Spa and Pool Institute of South Africa).
